Welcome to Mission: Citizen's first annual live-auction charity fundraiser! We are so excited to have you on board. For those that aren't familiar with our work, Mission: Citizen is a student-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit that teaches naturalization classes to hundreds of immigrants annually at three locations in the Portland Metro area. Our goal is to remove the logistical, financial, and educational barriers that legal permanent residents in Oregon face when attempting to naturalize. We are a no-overhead organization, meaning we pay no salaries and all the money you donate goes directly to our immigrant learners. Our organization was created in 2009 by a group of Constitution Team alumni who sought to apply their extensive historical knowledge to the real world, and since then, hundreds of volunteers have come through the program. Every single one of them has successfully completed the competitive Constitution Team program, and is committed to furthering civic engagement in all people of the United States.
At Mission: Citizen, we thrive off of community support, and our upcoming fundraiser is the perfect way for each of you to pitch in. The event will take place on May 13th, 2017 at the Eliot Center in downtown Portland. We will have a scrumptious catered dinner for all attendees, in addition to guest speakers and entertainment. Items up for auction will range from beautiful Sun River homes to brewery tours and airplane adventures, presenting enticing options for a wide variety of attendees.
All money raised at the event will go toward three main initiatives. First, we will use funds for a combined scholarship/legal-help program which provides adult students with the resources to complete the complex paperwork necessary for naturalization and eventually afford the costly process itself. Second, we will allocate money toward a comprehensive TriMet- and radio- advertisement program that will draw more adult immigrants into our program. Finally, we will use some of the money raised to support our iPad learning initiative, which will use tablets in an educational setting to help surmount language barriers.
Raffle tickets will be on sale before and during the event. For $100, you can purchase the chance to win a vacation to Mexico, Italy, or Bali, each of which includes accommodations, food, and a wide variety of possible activities.
